Important Information About Your Initial Consultation

Thank you for making an appointment for an Initial Consultation with Anderson Elder Law. We are looking forward to a productive and informative meeting.  This document provides important information for you to review that pertains to the scope of our services to you for an Initial Consultation.

  1. The firm collected a legal fee from you for your Initial Consultation. This initial consultation fee is considered earned upon receipt when paid to Firm and is non-refundable.  However, our Firm will consider refunding a portion of the fee if it will be unconscionable for Firm to retain it. This consultation fee is a fixed fee for a consultation that may extend up to one (1) hour in length.  We accept on-line electronic payment, personal checks and cash for payment of initial consultations.

  2. In addition to the fixed fee, if you choose to continue your consultation beyond the allotted 1-hour appointment time, the firm reserves the right to charge additional legal fees at regular hourly rates. Hourly rates vary among staff members.

  3. It is the practice of our firm to conduct initial consultations with the prospective clients and/or all required decision makers during the initial consultation. Please understand that, to the extent that there are any general discussions of individual(s) (such as parents) during the consultation who are not clients of Anderson Elder Law, they do not become clients of the firm unless a written agreement is signed.

  4. Please be advised that this Fee Disclosure is for a formal legal representation that relates solely to the Initial Consultation. Anderson Elder Law is not “retained” for any other service other than the Initial Consultation.   Anderson Elder Law is not “retained” after the Initial Consultation unless and until there is a written Fee Agreement offer to the Client(s) that is signed both by the firm and the Client(s).  Therefore, questions, advice, and information sought by you AFTER the Initial Consultation cannot be provided by Anderson Elder Law unless you are offered a written Fee Agreement AND you formally retain the firm’s services by signing the Fee Agreement.

  5. The Initial Consultation is a working meeting, and it is our goal to provide you with legal guidance and answer your questions in a clear, understandable way so that you can make informed, helpful decisions about your circumstances.

  6. With respect to the services provided under the Young Adult Power of Attorney Package, the client is the young adult themselves. According to ethical rules for legal services, by proceeding with our services, the young adult consents to the payment of legal fees by their parent(s). Please note, the fixed fee for the Young Adult Package is considered earned once a submission requesting document preparation has been received for expedited service. If the young adult has not contacted Anderson Elder Law (AEL) directly, the parent is confirming that the adult child has instructed them to establish the legal representation and pay the associated fees. The request for services is made by the parent after consulting with their adult child, with the adult child authorizing the parent to proceed with establishing the legal representation and covering the legal fees.

We look forward to meeting you and, if appropriate, working with you to accomplish your goals.
